About Ann
With my grandfather in 1969
I was six years old when the astronauts landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. "Just think of what we have seen in our lives," my grandfather said to my grandmother. "From horse-drawn carriages to this!" The stories they told made a much greater impact on me than what was on TV, and I decided on that day to be an editor to help people craft narratives.
experience
I moved to College Station, Texas, shortly after graduating from college, thinking I would stay a few years and then move on. Those years turned into more than three decades of writing and editing experience, and I have loved almost every minute of it.
I’m also a part-time copyeditor for Inklings Publishing, a Houston-based romance and fantasy publisher.
texas A&M University
My first job after college was with the alumni association at Texas A&M, which was ironic since I didn't have a degree from there at the time. Over the years, I have also worked at Texas A&M's Real Estate Center, International Programs Office, Division of Marketing and Communications/Office of the President, and School of Public Health.
The A&M System
For nearly ten years, I was in the Office of the Chancellor, under Chancellors Graves, McTeer, and McKinney. I also was with the Texas Engineering Extension Service (an A&M System agency) and worked at one of the largest and most popular first responder training facilities in the world, called "Disneyland for firefighters."
Ready to cross the stage for my PhD
education
I earned a bachelor's degree at a small, private liberal arts college and two graduate degrees from one of the nation's largest and most prestigious research universities.
Hendrix College
Since my time there, it's grown to about 1,500 students and added a football team. But Stoby's is still there, and the ivy-covered, red-brick buildings and spirit of camaraderie and discovery are as strong as ever. I earned a bachelor's degree in English and along the way also worked part-time as a reporter at the local paper, typesetter at a printing company, and intern at publishing house in Little Rock.
texas A&M University
As the late Charles Gordone, the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize in drama and a faculty member there once said, "When you think Texas, it's Texas A&M!" The Aggie--and Texan--core values of leadership, integrity, excellence, service, respect, and loyalty still infuse the student body of more than 77,000. I earned a master's degree and doctorate in higher education administration, both with a focus on public relations.
